No more argie bargie in this kitchen

Jenny & John Rutledge, Auckland

Jenny and her husband John live in a lovely quiet neighbourhood, with glorious water views towards Tamaki. They've lived in their home for 29 years. In that time they've renovated every room except the kitchen.

Jenny freely admitted that the old kitchen simply didn't work. It was a galley style kitchen, with a weird configuration. Working together in that constricted space was impossible, Jenny described it as too much argie bargie. The hob was in the middle of the bench top with a large window instead of a splash-back. This meant there was no range hood and so windows had to be opened to cope with steam and cooking smells. This just about worked unless it was windy and so Jenny had to put up with it year after year.

Then as luck would have it, the hot water tank sprung a serious leak, causing damage to the floor and the kitchen. With warped doors, cupboards swollen and water damaged, it had to be a new kitchen.

Having approached three kitchen companies, Jenny decided on Kitchen Studio because as a one stop shop, they could handle the entire project and she liked their friendly consultative approach.

After 29 years of putting up with an argie bargie kitchen, Jenny knew exactly what she wanted. Top of the list was a huge sink and an island. The final result is fabulous says Jenny. She added, "They've taken the same space and somehow created a lot more space, it's a pleasure to work in".
