From weird to wonderful

Alison & Grant Slater, New Plymouth.

Alison and Grant met Kirstin the Kitchen Studio designer at the New Plymouth home show. As Alison recalls, she asked Kirstin if she was up for a challenge and said, "We've got a weird shaped kitchen and I'm not sure what you can do with it".

Not only was the kitchen on the small side, but it was also an unusual configuration, with the main part of the kitchen raised a couple of feet higher than the dining area.
As with most older kitchens, storage was inadequate to say the least. As Grant says, food items would get lost at the back of the pantry and pots and pans would disappear forever at the back of the cupboards.

This project was a real collaborative effort and the transformation achieved is remarkable. The old, small dingy kitchen has been transformed into a modern, spacious kitchen with outstanding workflow.

Alison and Grant originally thought a breakfast bar would be impossible, but Kirstin came up with a cool solution that cleverly integrates the kitchen and dining area. What was once weird is now wonderful.
