Va va voom

Considered spatial-planning and interesting colour-blocking gave the desired Va Va Voom to this dull, dated and dysfunctional urban kitchen. The client wanted exciting ideas and solutions - the starting point for further home-renovations.

The main gripe was “everything happens in one corner of the kitchen.” The kitchen did not offer adequate storage and connection, nor did it provide work and social areas for the young, busy family to enjoy at common times of the day.

The revised layout had to be practical, functional and flexible. The materials were to be fuss-free, durable, and have a simple, modern aesthetic.

I flexed my design muscles and looked at neighbouring spaces to suggest an over-sized island to accommodate both the cooktop and primary-sink. North-east orientation of the Island also meant improved physical and social connection to neighbouring spaces. This thinking was quickly accepted with the remaining technical, spatial and cost considerations quickly falling into place.

The kitchen and neighbouring spaces are now inviting, practical and provide a welcomed sense of calm.
