Revival

Reviving this kitchen brought functionality and beauty. Combining natural textures, moody cabinetry, integrating the old with the new and improving functionality was what my clients wanted to achieve. We produced this through careful curation of materials and focusing on how the clients like to use their kitchen.

Alongside the client, we curated a palette that was moody and natural. As the existing stone benchtop was not going to be able to be matched, we specified ‘Lancelot Oak’ by Duropal for the L-Shape Benchtop. This complimented the existing stone and added another natural element to the design. ‘Black Timberland’ was used on the Doors, Drawers and Panels. The space is open plan, so the black worked well, the texture then added a further nod to the natural desire and works functionally. The Timberland texture helps conceal a lot of marking that is typical of black cabinetry.

The cooktop and the sink were kept in their original locations due to the limitations with doing a part kitchen renovation. The cabinets underneath these were reworked to get as much functionality out of the space as possible. Adding a rubbish bin by the sink and a large set of drawers under the cooktop gave good storage and made this a very ergonomic space regardless of the limitations. The space tower pantry ensured that despite the reduced width of the pantry, there was still ample storage for food. As the clients use more fresh food, the bigger fridge was required to suit their cooking style.

Making sure this space was functional and worked for my clients was the main priority. This was accomplished successfully with attention to detail and good communication between the clients and myself. Their moody but functional kitchen will last them for many years to come.
