With colour inspiration drawn from a favourite yellow and blue tea-set and 50’s-style geometric patterned curtains; and design queues taken from a photo of the tiny kitchen in Brockloch Treehouse, it was clear from the start that this was going to be no monochromatic or pure white sterile kitchen!
My clients love the bright pastels, and colourful linoleums used in 50’s kitchen design but certainly didn’t want their new kitchen to look and feel old fashioned, dated or pastiche.
Modern Fisher & Paykel integrated appliances provided a more up to date aesthetic and allowed the multi-coloured pastel cabinetry to “do the talking”. Geometric tiles in white complemented the retro theme without detracting from the balance of colours used across the cabinetry, with the light coloured 20mm stone bench giving an upgrade to the previously used formica leaving room for the linoleum floor to pop as another standout feature.
Changing the original U-shape to a galley layout provided better functionality and flow to this two-user kitchen with improved connection to the dining space and that at all important contemporary feel.
