Magnolia Cottage

This space was awkward and in need of reconfiguration. Having the hob and sink on opposite walls allowed for designated work zones. The client loves to bake and making these changes provided her with sufficient bench space and structured storage.

Pistachio coloured cabinets paired with warm wood benchtops create a calm and inviting space. To emphasise the cottage look, 50’s style Smeg appliances were incorporated. The use of tongue and groove panels and narrow reeded glass doors elevated the kitchen perfectly.

The client asked for a butlers sink, functionality, storage, and a calm space to be the heart of her home.

This design met the client brief to produce a functional kitchen that had plenty of storage while still feeling calm and marrying in with the character of the home.

To achieve this, the sink and the hob were positioned on separate walls giving the client a lot more usable bench space and meeting required landing zones for either side of the sink and the hob.

Allowing for grand walkthroughs in a renovation can be tricky, the negative space between the sink and the hob was enough to work in and have any foot traffic move through without disruption. The client enjoys being in the kitchen so making this space comfortable for her to cook in was key.

Storage lacked in the original kitchen. A Blum Space tower was specified to gain as much storage as possible out of the pantry. A tall glass door cabinet displays the clients fine China and beautiful crockery. A Mondo corner solution was specified to take advantage of an otherwise unused space. We discussed what the client needed storage for and made sure it was all catered to.

Lastly, ensuring the kitchen tied in with the character of the home and the client’s aesthetic was a priority.  The client originally requested white cabinetry, but after our first consultation, pistachio matt was the perfect colour to compliment the home. To marry the character of the home into the kitchen, we used tongue and groove panels, narrow reeded glass doors, a combination of knob and cup handles, and profiled doors. Furthermore, open shelving and décor boxes were specified to add dimension and quirks to the kitchen.
