Inviting Glow

To allow for the introduction of a more functional U-shaped layout this kitchen was extended into the eaves to create a larger footprint, while the existing doorway between the kitchen and the laundry/entry was closed off. 

The clients also wished to incorporate a built-in bench seat beneath the window closest to the dining area, making the most of natural sunlight and creating a relaxed, inviting space.

Clean lines, simplicity, and functionality were central to the design. The new kitchen needed to maximise storage and provide ample bench space, with clearly defined zones to support a busy family of four. A large single sink was a key requirement, replacing a previously inadequate smaller one.

The existing timber floorboards informed the overall palette, leading to a combination of white and timber finishes. However, the clients preferred a more refined timber look, avoiding heavy grain or prominent knots.

A small number of open shelving units were incorporated to provide opportunities for displaying selected items, adding personality and visual interest to the space.
