Banish my Kitchen Blues

Timeless and classy instead of electric blue and brassy was the client brief. The client wanted clean straight lines and island seating for modern family living. In this “black-white” kitchen, the slim brushed nickel handles compliment the fluid movement of the grey marbling in the sleek, polished 20mm thick bench. 

Colour matching the glass splash back to the half tone wall colour sets it back in the design so the bench can be the hero piece. Squaring off the pantry on the back wall allowed the island, with informal seating for the family of four, to be positioned centrally in the kitchen dining space with ample room for the formal dining table behind. 

Using pantry pull-outs provided comparable (full depth) storage to the original corner pantry using a smaller footprint. This and the smaller (but similar capacity) fridge allowed more room at the cooktop than the original layout. A combined preparation and clean upzone was created with left to right flow of bins, sink and dishwasher with a bank of drawers positioned next to it on the adjacent island for easy unloading of cutlery and crockery at the end of the dishwasher cycle–so easy the kids might even do it (well that was the plan)!
