Brief ‘LA PETITE CUISINE’
After returning from living in France and purchasing an inner- city cottage my client went about re creating a little piece of France right here in New Zealand.
With creative flare a loft bedroom was added via steep stairs, old packing cases were used to line the Kitchen ceilings and exterior cladding was exposed internally to build on storage…
Delighted to be part of this petite project with its size challenge and constraints, I very quickly worked out a layout.

Aesthetics were the key and we decided on black traditional cabinetry and white benchtops to add definition to the distressed weatherboards and white- washed floors.
Working in the food and wine industry, and passionate about all things related to food, this compact space was required to perform as a full-size kitchen. A double oven negated the use of extra appliances cluttering the nominal bench surface. The stairs provided a niche to neatly fit the Fridge, an angled Space Tower Pantry, along with an added angled cupboard. Traditional Brass Cup handles and knobs were chosen to complement the brass Tap and a black Sink was undermounted added contrast to the crisp white Benchtop.

If there is one Kitchen that can ‘take you there”, this is it, with its rustic charm you feel you are deep in Provence, rather than in the middle of a city. The design appears effortless (as do all things French) but every accessory and fitting has been considered from brass rails to hanging hooks.
