Project Brief:
Situated on the sand dunes of Papamoa, this kitchen was part of a complete rebuild of a 1990’s two storey executive home. The clients were returning to New Zealand after a working life as ex-pats. Drawn to the beach-front lifestyle, they were keen to have a home they could open up to friends and family and proudly show-off as the rewards of their hard work.
As a designer, I was given a very open brief. The over-riding theme was open, inclusive and a little bit posh. The colour scheme was to be simple, yet elegant. White, raking ceiling and natural oak floors set the tone for the kitchen, dining and lounge. The bench top was to be the hero of the kitchen and a beautiful Calcutta Quartz engineered stone was selected. Given the large-scale pattern of the top. Careful attention was taken to ensure the waterfall ends matched as closely as possible. Arborlaser doors and panels were used to add a high gloss element, which was countered by the heavily textured wallpaper on the exterior wall. The long letter-box window was built to the designers specified dimensions. The stainless kickboards paired with the stainless appliances became the third major material element for the room.
This kitchen is bristling with features, from the comprehensive appliance package, to the integrated vacuum unit in the kickboard of the island. Instant hot water tap, to lighting and integrated sound system. The requirements of even the most demanding kitchen users are perfectly catered for in this simply elegant kitchen.
