Design by Cath Johnstone – Kitchen Studio Hamilton
My family of four moved to this location knowing the kitchen had issues which would require some insight to fulfil their expectations. They were open to removing a window to increase the kitchen size and overcoming varying cabinet heights due to an existing built-in bulkhead.
- REQUIREMENTS
- Increase the overall kitchen size and usable bench space, with accessible corners and cabinets built to the ceiling.
- Big wide drawers, a rubbish bin drawer, and with children in mind a wall oven at a safe height.
- Solid benchtop with undermounted sink, and breakfast bar seating.
- A smart contrasting horizontal modern look, with texture to compliment the homes era, yet able to accommodate children and family entertainment.
SOLUTIONS
Once the window was removed, the kitchen was able to be extended. This allowed for a horizontal line of benchtop and built-in white gloss wall cupboards, with LED lights beneath to provide good lighting. It was complimented by under bench cabinetry of dark “Charred Oak “horizontal grain and handles.
Two ”mondos” allowed corner storage to be utilized well. A rubbish bin drawer was positioned close to the sink.
An open shelf at the end of the built-in wall cupboards solved the challenge of the existing roofline. The wall oven tower in “white gloss” dealt with the height difference of the existing bulkhead.
The black and white theme is striking as you enter the home; to be met by the beautiful waterfall -end and my delighted clients.
