Client Brief

The open plan living space leads the eye out to the lake view. Located by the entrance, the kitchen needed to be practical and elegant while capitalising on the view.

Issues:
The island upstand was claustrophobically high and had no seating.
Cabinetry was angled and protruded past the bi-folding doors.
Towers closed off the hob, left minimal bench space and blocked the view.
The hob was placed almost inside the dining space, which was awkward and restricted flow around the table.
Appliances cluttered the island benchtop, leaving little space for serving and entertaining.

Solution:
The island and back wall’s cabinets were straightened, allowing a much larger serving space for entertaining and bar seating.
The benchtop pantry eases the indoor/outdoor flow and hides small appliances.
The hob has enough surrounding space and is open ended to incorporate the view.
The waterfall end and inset defines the kitchen from the dining area and eases flow around the table.
The timber upstand serves as a feature, but also conceals the sink ‘service area’ from the main entrance.
The elegant overhead feature ends as a bookshelf in the reading corner.

The minimal design combined with the neutral palette and natural feature elements, are not only practical but also elegant and capitalises on the view with finesse.
