Client Brief
After being in the home for 19 years the family-focused clients decided it was time for a kitchen update. The layout has the kitchen situated centrally open to both living areas and the dining space. The old kitchen lacked storage and bench space and the many angles made working in it difficult.
Bringing in timber accents to tie in with furniture in the rest of their home as well as adding a bit of warmth to the colour palette was part of the brief. They were keen to have an appliance area that looked nice when open but still had the option to be closed away when entertaining. This was achieved by using timber look internal cabinetry and shelving instead of the standard white interior and further accentuated by lighting.
We needed to work around an HRV duct in the ceiling which restricted the positioning of any tall cabinetry. In addition, an angled wall that opened into the main living area limited the depth of cabinetry at one end. This was cleverly overcome by creating a shallow depth area with open shelving which ended up becoming a feature within the kitchen. Mindful of costs we managed to work around existing waste and ducting locations. Storage requirements were met by the use of drawers, a mondo carousel and cabinetry to the ceiling.
The clients are delighted with their new kitchen and can’t believe how much it has not only transformed the space but met all their needs.
