These beautiful holistic clients believe that the kitchen is important to gain balance and wellbeing.
The original kitchen was dark and enclosed with no visual connection outside of the room. Extra storage space was the first consideration. My clients wanted to bring light and colour to create interest, open the space and incorporate the kitchen and laundry. The kitchen had to follow the natural laws of Sthapatya Veda.
Requirements:
- More organised storage space
- Overall look of kitchen – Modern, light, clean, calm, practical and sleek
- Bench top – Light stone to bring light into the dark kitchen
- Gas Cook Top and oven placement needed to follow Ayurvedic philosophies
- Splash back – Feature to brighten and inject colour into the kitchen and easy care
- Flooring – Warm and easy to maintain
- Laundry – needed to be part of the kitchen
- Create an open plan feel without going to the expense of Council consents.
Solution:
- 2 x Mondo 900 to gain more storage and organisation space.
- Wall partially removed between the kitchen and dining area. This maximised the natural light from all windows, behind the cook top and inside the laundry.
- To achieve open plan feel – Wall removal made the space work better for the family. There is now a real connectivity between the kitchen and the rest of the house.
- Cook Top and oven needed to be in north facing based on the clients’ holistic philosophy.
- To meet regulations for the gas cooker, the window position increased to 250mm above the bench top.
- Blue Glass splash back adds a sense of calm.
- Built in Laundry space with sandblasted glass brings light to the room and helps to break up the expanse of cabinetry and soften the transition between the units. It also has a reflective quality that helps to brighten the space.
