New Plymouth
Imagine having a brand new custom-made kitchen with some favourable guarantees. Culinary dreams are yours at Kitchen Studio, 113 Gill Street New Plymouth.
Rodney Buckthought and Kirstin Robinson bought Kitchen Studio on October 26 2010. Each operated their own separate business: however, the couple wanted a venture they could work together. Kitchen Studio turned out to be the perfect opportunity that complemented their strengths. “
We liked the fact that the customer guarantees include a 10 year warranty on cabinetry and hardware plus a guarantee on deposit.
It is a quality product and contrary to popular belief is NOT a kitset outfit. We design and create fantastic and functional custom-made kitchens that look amazing,” says Kirstin. She also liked that Kitchen Studio is part of an 18-strong franchise group around New Zealand and even when they are busy, they can still guarantee a new kitchen to a high standard every time, no matter how busy they are.
Rodney is Managing Director of a building company, Pristine Renovations, and is a qualified cabinetmaker. Rodney has been building for fifteen years and as a cabinetmaker he is very “precise and picky”. Pristine Renovations works in association with Kitchen Studio, so if you are after a brand new home or a renovations, the two businesses dovetail nicely.
The Kitchen Studio team consists of kitchen designer Nikyla Fraser and available by appointment is the kitchen designer stalwart, Jeanette Davidson. Giles Stepney has a Trade Certificate in joinery and builds and installs. Operating for eight years in New Plymouth their prices for a kitchen range from $8,000 up to $55,000+. Parmco is the brand of appliances Kitchen Studio promotes, but any other appliance brands can be used.
As well as kitchens, laundry cabinetry and wardrobe systems can be built too “A laundry is like a kitchenette. You have a bench with a sink and over bench cupboards. A feature to the cupboards is to add a pull-out hamper,” says Kirstin, who uses this in her own home. Kitchen Studio can also custom-make bathroom vanities and supply wardrobe systems. “We are like a one-stop shop. We can build a new house or renovate an existing home. Usually hour have to get in a kitchen joiner. With Rodney.s skills, we can do it all at a competitive price.” While white has long been popular for a kitchen choice, trends show that multi-tones of light and dark are in demand – providing visual texture in the form of a wood grain look mixed with neutral colours. Two tone styling will not cost you more at Kitchen Studio.
The Studio Grained Effects range includes chunky laminate in 45mm or 70mm thick for use as décor boxes or special features in the kitchen. There are also real wood veneers for cupboard panels and if someone wants a solid wooden bench tops this can also be done. Other benchtop products include Corian, Infinity, Stoneology – engineered stone and Granite. All have various strengths and mostly choice is dependent on preference and budget. For cupboards and doors there are is a great range of colours and textures to choose from in the Formica and Melamine ranges. Exclusive to Kitchen Studio is Imagine – a brand of high gloss laminate that exhibits a high gloss lacquered finish for doors and drawer fronts. While the shiny reflective look is not for everyone, bling is “in” with toe-kick lighting, mirrored splash backs and chrome handles adding to the party in the kitchen. Other trends show the „no-handle-look” is still strong with easy glide draws that simply open at a slight push and glass doors with aluminium frames break up the solid door look. Subtle differences can be seen in cabinetry with either square-edged or round-edged finishes. There are five kitchens currently on display in the showroom. These show off different products, features and colour schemes. Rodney and Kirstin and their experienced team are willing to listen and serve you the best possible kitchen with some guarantees to sweeten the pie. Test for yourself.
